Pro-Gauge with Tappet Installation "PG-1C"
We have had several e-mails directed as to "WHERE" is the proper location to mount the tappet adapter for the Pro-Gauge. So, to answer your questions and to simplify the installation process, we have taken some pictures and dedicated this web page for you! Before you start this procedure, you may want to have everything you need for an oil change. This is because oil will exit this tappet screen hole during installation. It will be much easier and less of a mess if your drain your oil tank before starting this process! If you have recently changed your oil or feel that it is not needed, you'll need to keep some rags handy!
The pencil shows the location of the tappet screen plug. It is located directly behind and to the right of the rear tappet block. This is where the tappet adapter will be installed. Usually, this plug is made of aluminum and has a straight screwdriver slot in it. This Harley has a chromed capped nut on it. Remove the plug or capped nut. Underneath, you will find a spring and the tappet screen. Remove both the spring and screen, clean both and inspect the screen for any damage or metal shavings. You may need to use a piece of wire ( carefully ) to remove the screen. Replace the screen and spring.
This shows the capped nut or aluminum plug removed and the first part of the tappet adapter installed. Again, remember that the tappet screen and spring have been re-installed
This shows the second part of the adapter or elbow installed along with the Pro-Gauge. Now is a good time to wipe off any fingerprints or oil residue. Start your engine and check for any oil leaks!
The installation is complete! You now have a precision instrument that will monitor your oil pressure! It looks fantastic here, and, it will look fantastic on YOUR Harley-Davidson motorcycle!
